North Melbourne forward Mason Wood has been stretchered from the ground after knocking himself out in his team's AFL clash with Essendon on Saturday.

The 22-year-old forward took a high-flying mark in the third quarter but landed on his head, losing consciousness.

He was taken from the ground on a motorised stretcher after a long delay.

North Melbourne produced a record-breaking first two quarters, restricting Essendon to their lowest first-half score in 101 years.
